Frequently Asked Questions
About acupuncture
What is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is among the oldest healing practices in the world. As part of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), acupuncture aims to restore and maintain health through the stimulation of specific points on the body.
It was devised before 2500 BCE in China and by the late 20th century was used in many other areas of the world. Acupuncture consists of the insertion of one or several small metal needles into the skin and underlying tissues at precise points on the body.
Does Acupuncture Hurt?
Acupuncture needles are typically not much thicker than a human hair, and their insertion is nothing like getting a shot. In some cases, you will not even know the needles are in place. In others, there may be some tingling, warmth, heaviness, or a feeling of movement.
Most people find acupuncture extremely relaxing, and many fall asleep during treatment.
Is Acupuncture Safe?
Acupuncture is generally considered safe when performed by a competent, licensed acupuncture practitioner.
Using single-use disposable needles sealed by the manufacturer in sterile conditions is now a standard practice. The needles are opened just prior to use by the acupuncture practitioner. Because of this, the risk of infection is very low.
About treatment

During treatment, patients typically laying on the treatment table (face down / face up) or sitting on the chair. All depends on the location of needles insertion.
